Elijah Fed By Ravens

God was displeased with King Ahab, so He sent His prophet Elijah the Tishbite to tell him, "As the Lord God of Israel lives, there will be no dew or rain for years throughout all of Israel." God knew that these words would make Ahab angry, so He commanded Elijah to get out of Ahab's way. "Go east and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there."

Elijah went and did as God said.

The ravens brought him bread and meat every morning and evening, and he drank from the brook. But after many days, the brook dried up because there was no rain. Then God told him, "Go to Zarephath, and stay there. A widow there will provide for you." So Elijah got up and went to Zarephath. When he came to the city gate, he saw a widow gathering sticks. He called to her, "Please bring me a little water in a jar, so I may drink, and a piece of bread, so I may eat."

The widow replied, "As the Lord your God lives, I have no bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to go home and prepare a meal for myself and my son, so we can eat it before we starve." Elijah told her, "Don't be afraid. Go and do as you have said, but first make a small cake for me, and then make one for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord God of Israel says: 'The jar of flour will not be used up, and the jug of oil will not run dry until the Lord sends rain again on the land.'"

She did as Elijah told her, and there was always enough flour and oil for their daily food, just as the Lord had promised through Elijah.
